Late Night used to be a delight. TV-viewers would don their pj's, and settle down with a hot cup of cocoa and wait for the opening line, "Here's Johnny!"

Johnny's viewers averaged about 9 million a night. Kimmel pulls in aboout a million. I wonder why that is? Well, I think it's because of the host himself and the content of his show.

Johnny Carson was funny. He was a good interviewer.  He listened. His guests weren't all liberals, or conservatives. There were people you didn't know at the time, like Martina Navratilova, to famous stars like Peter Falk. It was the perfect way to spend the hour before bedtime.

The world has changed, and so has the Late Show. If Kimmel does nothing else, maybe he should do a little self-evaluation, then watch a couple of the Carson reruns. Johnny's still raking in the viewers, and he's been off the air since 1992.

Hang tough.
