I was buying Chinese take-out the other day. The tiny, elderly Chinese woman who waited on me called out my order in Chinese, while she wrapped my egg rolls.
“I’d love to learn Chinese,” I said to her. “Everybody say that,” she replied, “but nobody do it.”
She’s right. It’s like fraud and waste in Washington, D.C. “Everybody say they want to do it, but nobody do.”
Both Clinton and Obama said they were going to fix up the government.
“In 1993, Clinton ordered a “crash six-month program” to wipe out government waste.
Then he put Al Gore in charge.
In 2011, Obama had his “Campaign to Cut Waste.”
He issued an Executive Order mandating an “effort to hunt down misspent tax dollars in every agency and department of the government.”
He decided the effort should begin with “millionaire farmers” who “received millions in crop subsidies.”
And said he was shocked to see “pointless waste and stupid spending that doesn’t benefit anybody.” He added that there were approximately 12,000 federal government buildings which were designated as “excess,” and which he promised to ensure would be sold.
And he put Joe Biden in charge.
None of these promises came true, but Democrats don’t mind that.
They didn’t mind hearing promises made, promises not kept in 1993, 2008 and 2011.
After all, that’s the way things are done in D.C. The way they’ve always been done.
What Democrats do mind now is how fast President Trump and Elon Musk are cleaning up, and cleaning out the D.C. bureaucracy. Something Democrats couldn’t, or wouldn’t do.
It makes them paranoid. It makes them look real stupid.
Kickbacks? Yeah, that term’s been thrown around.
Last night Musk told Fox’s Sean Hannity why there is so much blowback.
“I think what we’re seeing here is sort of the thrashing of the bureaucracy as we try to restore democracy and the will of the people.
He said competence and caring were necessary ingredients to do this job.
"Can you, can anyone, can any reasonable person say that the last administration was either competent or caring?”
Caring? No. Competency. Hmmm. Come to think of it. Obama never had it. And, apparently, he still doesn’t.
Forget the Green Businesses he let the government finance that went belly up. Or “You like your doctor, you can keep your doctor.” Now Obama can’t even get his Presidential Library built.
After eight years, the weather-barrier Tyvek is still on the building’s outer walls, and the concrete on those walls isn’t looking so good.
Initial estimates for construction have ballooned from $350 million to $850 million dollars as of 2021. No new updates were available.
At the outset, Obama insisted on hiring only DEI diverse suppliers.
“With these aggressive goals, the foundation is hoping to set a new precedent for diversity and inclusion in major construction projects in Chicago and beyond,” the Obama Foundation press release read in 2017.
Except now Obama’s being sued for $40.75 million dollars by a minority contractor, whom the structural engineering company stated was incompetent.
Talk about DEI biting you in the…pocketbook.
If only the former president had hired people who knew what they were doing to clean up the government, and, yeah, to build his library.
But, unfortunately the best guys for the job are too busy these days, working out of the Oval Office, doing the job Obama and Clinton never were able to do.
Hold the line, America.
