It's Not Racism. It's History

It's been a cruel, cruel summer.

In England, Winston Churchill's statue had to be placed in protective custody.

Here in America, Thomas Jefferson and Christopher Columbus' statues are fighting a losing battle.

Jefferson's was dragged down outside a high school named for him in Portland, Oregon. Columbus' statue was decapitated in Boston, and thrown into a lake in Richmond.

All for the same reason: Racism.

Accusations of racism is the only thing the morons in England, and Black Lives Matter and Antifa in America know. Because they sure don't know jack about history.

Speaking of stupid, this week Hillary Clinton's 2016 running mate, Sen. Tim Kaine, announced he believes America created slavery.

He was speaking on the Senate floor in favor of the Justice in Policing Act of 2020, introduced by Senators Cory Booker and Kamala Harris, two other intellectual giants.

Pandering to the "Get Rid of Cops" crowd, Kaine implored fellow senators to "dismantle the structures of racism that our federal, state and local governments carefully erected and maintained over the centuries."

It looks suspiciously like Kaine skipped the history class where the efforts the Founding Fathers made to limit slavery in the Constitution were discussed.

And the fact that members of the Continental Congress were focussed on the larger goal of securing unity and independence among thirteen disparate colonial states.

Kaine neglected to say that it was this U.S. Constitution which established a system of government, which then led to freedom for slaves.

Sen. Kaine's knowledge of history doesn't seem to date back further than Al Gore's invention of the internet, so he probably missed Aristotle's perspective on slavery.

"For that some should rule, and some should be ruled, is a thing not only necessary, but expedient," Aristotle wrote in "Politics."

"From the hour of their birth, some are marked out for subjugation, others for rule."

That was in 385 B.C.

In the end, there's no substitute for intelligence. Well. Except for violence.

That's the road elected leaders have taken in the states where most violent protects have occurred.

This week Mayor "Summer of Love" Jenny Durkan let anarchists take control of the police precinct in her city.

That was after the state's governor, Jay Insleee, said, and chuckled, that he hadn't heard that Seattle had been taken hostage by anarchists.

Durkan knew what she intended when she ordered the police there to stand down, pack up, and abandon their precinct. And the anarchists knew what that meant sybolically. Surrender.

You never surrender a stronghold to terrorists. Just as a president should never bow his head to a Saudi king. Or give money to a terrorist enemy country like Iran.

It's a sign of weakness. And America's enemies love it when it happens.

Symbols are so symbolic.

The Flag. The Liberty Bell. The Statue of Liberty. A police precinct.

They represent what is important in a culture. That is why the Taliban destroyed the Buddhas of Bamiyan in Afghanistan. And that's why statues are being torn down in our country.

The story of a country and its people, the Good, the Bad and the Ugly, is its history.

No country, or man, is all good or all bad. And imperfections are not the sum total of a country or a man's worth.

On May 10, 1775, Col. Benedict Arnold, with Ethan Allen and the Green Mountain Boys boldly captured Fort Ticonderoga from the British.

It was the first American victory of the Revolutionary War.

It was important. The victory gave hope. It symbolized that there could be future successes.

But in 1780, Col. Arnold sold out his country, turning West Point over to the British in return for money and a command in the British army.

Did his treason erase the triumph of Fort Ticonderoga?

Or is that what most of us just call history?

Hold the line, America.
